The lineworkers of CAGELCO II once again proved their excellence in technical skill and teamwork, clinching two gold medals at the 3rd Luzon Warriors of Light Summit cum Line Workers’ Rodeo held at Melvin Jones Grandstand and Dumol Hall, Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) Headquarters, Baguio City last May 22-23, 2025.

The rodeo featured a wide array of events that simulate real-world tasks performed by lineworkers in the field, including Emergency Response and First Aid, Conductor Riding, Knot Tying, Wood Pole Dressing, Wood Pole Undressing, Wood Pole Climbing and Wood Pole Erection.

CAGELCO II dominated the competition with back-to-back gold wins in the Conductor Riding category and a remarkable performance in Knot Tying. NELECA, which represents electric cooperatives from Northeast Luzon, finished as the Overall 1st Runner-Up in the prestigious competition organized by the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (PHILRECA) in partnership with the Philippine Association of Technical Managers of Electric Cooperatives (PHILATMEC) and United Linemen Association of the Philippines (ULAP).

The NELECA delegates competed alongside other teams from various electric cooperatives across Luzon, including Regions I (RECA), III (CLECA), IV-A (ASTEC IV-A), IV-B (ASTEC IV-B), CAR (FECOREC), and Region V (BECA). In addition to its gold medals, NELECA also secured bronze finishes in the following categories: Wood Pole Erection, Wood Pole Climbing Relay, Wood Pole Dressing, Wood Pole Undressing, and Rodeo King demonstrating the depth of skill and versatility among the competitors.

The second day of the summit featured a line workersโ€™ seminar, with a powerful lineup of plenary speakers who engaged participants on a range of topics vital to modern utility work. Speakers included Mr. Jason Wayet, Atty. Delmar O. Cariรฑo, and Janelyne E. Tuyan, RN, LPT, MAED, each delivering talks that inspired and informed.

These sessions were designed to strengthen the professional competencies of linemen, focusing not just on technical skill but also on ethical conduct, mental resilience, and customer relations all vital components of effective service delivery in the power industry.

The same team that competed in Conductor Riding and Knot Tying will represent Luzon in the upcoming Ultimate Showdown: National Warriors of Light Summit cum Line Workers’ Rodeo, scheduled to take place in Aklan, Visayas on June 5โ€“6, 2025. ###
