The Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association, Inc. also known as PHILRECA 92. West is the national organization of the one hundred twenty-one (121) Electric Cooperatives operating in the country. Established in 1979, PHILRECA 92 West, the association, serves as the vanguard and defender of Electric Cooperatives’ sustainability and existence working towards one mission—promoting the goals of the Rural Electrification Program (REP).
Celebrating its 40th Anniversary on August 2019, PHILRECA had its major accomplishments to wit: 1. Headed the nationwide protest against the NPC Power rate increase; 2. Successfully worked out cases filed with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC); 3. Worked hand in hand with the various EC Allied Organizations for the establishment of the One EC Network Foundation; 4. Continued to be the EC representative to meetings and hearings on matters affecting the interests of the Electric Cooperatives and the Member-Consumer-Owners.
PHILRECA, the Philippines’ Electric Cooperative Assocation, is formed primarily for the purpose of fostering nationwide interest of FILIPINOS as electricity consumers and encourage the growth of electric cooperatives as institution in the rural areas.
As threats of privatization have been introduced in the Rural Electric Cooperatives, PHILRECA believes that the REP is a powerful and a force to reckon with, a sectoral partylist as well as political party of the Electric Consumers in general, and Rural Energy Consumers in particular. Thus, PHILRECA Partylist is formed.
The association considers that intensifying EC-MCO partnership through the 1 EC-MCO movement and sending of warm bodies in Congress would be a big step to overcome giant blocks that are preventing the continuance of the Rural Electrification program and the pursuit of its goal of Total Electrification in the country.
PHILRECA, being the instrument of the ECs in safeguarding the status of the RE program, calls out to every member-consumer-owners (MCOs) to support their electric cooperatives in order to prevent the further privatization of rural electric cooperatives.
